Guest Post: Introducing Tui Na to Acupuncture Services
I am delighted to announce I have recently qualified in Tui Na (pronounced twee-nah) - a traditional Chinese medical massage and one of the five core branches of Chinese medicine.
What is Tui Na?
It means “push and grasp” in Chinese. Using a variety of manual techniques such as kneading, pressing, rolling and stretching, it stimulates the flow of Qi and blood in the body. Treatment can be gentle or vigorous, dependent on the needs of the patient.
While it is often associated with the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and tension, Tui Na goes beyond that. It can be helpful for chronic health issues such as firbromyalgia, digestive discomfort, menstrual irregularities, fatigue, sleep issues and emotional tension. Like acupuncture, the aim is to restore balance and support the body’s natural healing processes.
How I will be using it:
Tui Na blends naturally with acupuncture, and I will be incorporating it into treatments when it can offer additional support. For example:
Release muscular tension before or after acupuncture
Support digestion or menstrual health
Calm the nervous system in treatments for stress or emotional wellbeing
Stimulate or soothe particular acupuncture channels
This hands on approach allows me to work in a more tactile, intuitive way, which can deepen the effectiveness of treatment - especially when movement, touch or Qi regular is needed.
I won’t be offering Tui Na as a standalone therapy, but rather as part of a fully integrated session with acupuncture when clinically appropriate.
If you are curious about how Tui Na might benefit you, I am happy to talk about it at your next appointment. Or you can book a free 20 minute phone consultation.
